(VOVworld) – Chinese President Xi Jinping is in the Maldives for the first state visit of a Chinese leader since the two countries set up diplomatic ties 42 years ago.

During his visit, President Xi will hold a meeting with Maldives President Abdulla Yameen. Over the past 42 years, cooperation between China and Maldives has focused on trade and tourism. President Xi is set to visit India and Sri Lanka, upon the conclusion of his visit to the Maldives on Tuesday.
