Maintaining economic growth, improving people's livelihood, and safeguarding social fairness are the three top tasks of China’s new government, Premier Li Keqiang said at his first press conference Sunday.

Li said that in a country as vast as China, there is a lot to do. The most important task is to ensure the continued growth of the economy. To do that, Li said China must build a reformed and transparent government that follows the rule of law. The new leader showed his determination to tackle corruption and promised to earn the public’s trust by cutting government spending.

Li insisted that China favors peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. China will foster relations with powers like the US and Russia and collaborate more closely with its neighbors on the basis of mutual benefit, making cooperation and peaceful development an irreversible trend.
