(VOVworld)-The Ministry of Transport and Thua Thien Hue provincial people’s committee held a ground breaking ceremony on Saturday to begin construction of tunnel in Phuoc Tuong and Phu Gia mountain passes. The tunnel is 8.4 kilometers long and costs more than 1.7 trillion dong to build. The 2-lane tunnel will take 18 months to complete under the Build Operate and Transfer model. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc was speaking at the ceremony: “The tunnel project will help boost transport and cultural exchanges between Thua Thien Hue province, Da Nang city, Quang Ngai province and neighboring areas. This will help improve traffic safety because the existing mountain road is unipath and a single accident would cause prolonged congestion.”

The same day, Deputy Prime Minister Phuc participated at a ceremony to begin a project to expand national highway 1A and launch a policlinic hospital in Thua Thien Hue province.
