A US delegation including National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Usha Vance — wife of Vice President JD Vance, is due to visit Greenland this week, the White House said Sunday.

The visit, which comes as President Trump continues to advocate for the US to annex Greenland, presents an opportunity to build on partnerships that respects Greenland’s self-determination and advances economic cooperation, according to the White House.

Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke told local broadcaster TV2 that the visit was particularly untimely as there have just been elections in Greenland and there is no Greenlandic government.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also expressed concerns on Sunday, emphasizing that any cooperation must be grounded in mutual respect and sovereignty. She said Denmark wants to cooperate with the Americans but it must be a cooperation that rests on the fundamental values of sovereignty and respect between countries and peoples.
