(VOVworld)- Vietnam and the US have seen the development of their bilateral ties, especially cooperation in economics, trade, investment, science and technology, education and training. During his visit to the US from February 7th to 11th, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh stressed the need to increase the exchanges of delegations between the two governments, parliaments and localities in the coming time. He also proposed the US government early recognize Vietnam’s full market economy status and grant Vietnam the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), as well as eliminate trade barriers on Vietnamese products including shrimp, tra and basa fish, honey, and wind turbine towers. Ninh also urged the US government to make practical moves in solving consequences left over from the war, especially increase projects on decontamination and assisting victims of Agent Orange/dioxin. The Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister reiterated Vietnam’s policy of accelerating international integration and joining the US and other partners to negotiate the Trans Pacific Partnership and suggested the US meet Vietnam’s interests in negotiating this deal.

The US reiterated its wish to further relations with Vietnam towards a strategic partnership and bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, investment, science, technology, education and humanity. The US is committed to closely cooperating with Vietnam at multilateral and regional forums including the ASEAN, the ASEAN Regional Forum, the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum and the East Asia Forum. The US wanted both sides to solve pending issues in bilateral trade relations and exert further efforts to complete the negotiations of the trans-Pacific Partnership.
