Delivering a keynote speech at the UN conference on mid-term comprehensive review on the Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” for the 2018-2022 period, in New York, Mr. Ha introduced Vietnam’s integrated and equitable approach in water resource cooperation and management.

He said Vietnam pledges to further enhance cooperation with international organizations and partners, especially countries within the Mekong River Commission and Mekong-Lancang cooperation mechanism, to achieve sustainable cross-border water development goals.

At the event, Deputy PM Ha met with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Director-General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Qu Dongyu, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Natalia Kanem, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Slovenia Tanja Fajon, French Minister for Ecological Transition and Cohesion of the Territories Christophe Béchu, and US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry.

During the meetings, the Deputy Prime Minister and leaders of countries and international organizations agreed to step up cooperation in climate change adaptation and water resource management.

FAO will support Vietnam to improve resource management, especially agricultural land, trans-boundary water resources, and inland water resources. UNFPA will support Vietnam in building and implementing social and security policies, paying special attention to vulnerable people and leaving no one behind.
