Deputy PM: Vietnam doesn’t intend export surplus with the US

(VOVWORLD) -Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue has said Vietnam does not intend an export surplus with the US, but focuses on competitive product exports and hi-tech and environmentally-friendly imports to meet the needs of the two countries’ businesses and people.

At a reception in Hanoi on Wednesday for Michael Kelly, Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, Mr. Hue said the Vietnamese and US economies are supplementary to each other, pledging the best possible conditions for US businesses in accordance with law. The Deputy PM said he hopes the US-Vietnam Trade Council, the US-ASEAN Business Council, and US companies will contribute to diplomatic ties and economic development of the two countries.

Mr. Kelly said he will work closely with Vietnamese agencies, localities, and businesses to strengthen investment cooperation and advise the US government in addressing emerging trade-investment issues.
