The administration has mobilized helicopters to transport injured people, medicines, and other necessities. A Speaker for the Foreign Ministry said Afghanistan appreciates relief from any organization.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that an earthquake in the morning of the same day shook an area 44 km southwest of the city of Khost near the border with Pakistan.
The Afghan Interior Ministry said Paktika province in eastern Afghanistan was the worst hit with 255 people dead and more than 200 injured. The death toll is likely to rise as there are some remote villages in the mountains and more time is needed to gather information from these locations.
