EU allocates 160 million euros to help Ukraine’s energy system

(VOVWORLD) -The European Union (EU) will additionally allocate 160 million euros (177 million USD) to help Ukraine’s energy system, European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen said on Thursday.

The aid includes 60 million for humanitarian needs - shelters and heaters, 100 million for repairs and restoration, and this amount will be taken from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets.

Von der Leyen also said a power plant is being dismantled in Lithuania and will be rebuilt in Ukraine, where 80% of thermal power plants have been destroyed. The EU aims to restore 3.5 GW of electricity capacity, or 15% of Ukraine's needs, she said.
