At a ceremony marking the start of Cyprus’s rotating presidency of the EU, European Council President Antonio Costa said the bloc’s 27 member states stand in full solidarity with Denmark and Greenland.
The same day, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said security issues in the Arctic region should be addressed “within the NATO framework”.
Earlier, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the UK, and Denmark issued a joint statement insisting that Greenland belongs to the Danish people. The statement says decisions concerning the island should be made solely by Denmark and Greenland.
