EU helps restore disrupted oil supply in Ukraine

(VOVWORLD) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Tuesday that the European Union would assist in restoring the Druzhba oil pipeline, as supply through Ukraine has been disrupted.

In a letter to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa expressed hope that swift repairs would facilitate progress on an EU loan package and sanctions measures.

In a statement accompanying the letter, von der Leyen confirmed that the EU has proposed technical and financial assistance to Ukraine, with European experts ready to be deployed immediately. Ukraine welcomed and accepted the offer.

On January 27, Ukraine halted oil flows to Hungary and Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline due to damage.
