(VOVWORLD) - The United Nations on Tuesday called for a swift and independent investigation into an attack on a drug rehabilitation center in Kabul that killed at least 400 people and injured around 250 others.
Speaking in Geneva, UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan stressed that the investigation must be timely, independent, and transparent, with results made public and victims and their families entitled to compensation.
On the same day, the European Union urged Afghanistan and Pakistan to exercise restraint following an airstrike in Kabul, calling on all parties to take maximum precautions to minimize civilian harm.
European Commission spokesperson Anouar El Anouni described the attack on a medical facility as a dangerous escalation that must be halted as soon as possible.
China called on both Afghanistan and Pakistan to exercise restraint, urging an immediate ceasefire and resolution of differences through dialogue, while continuing diplomatic efforts to help ease tensions and improve bilateral relations.
