(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump has made a strong statement regarding the Middle East military campaign, noting that most NATO member states are unwilling to join the United States in operations targeting Iran.
He added that the US has spent hundreds of billions of dollars over the years to protect these allies without receiving commensurate support.
President Trump also claimed that the United States has achieved decisive military success in Iran and is fully capable of acting independently to safeguard its national interests.
In a separate development, US National Counterterrorism Center Director Joseph Kent submitted his resignation on Tuesday, publicly opposing the ongoing war with Iran. In his resignation letter, he stated that he could no longer support the conflict and argued that Iran does not pose an immediate threat to the United States.
Kent also reaffirmed his support for President Trump’s foreign policy positions during the 2016, 2020, and 2024 election campaigns, noting that during his first term, Trump had recognized the risks of prolonged Middle East conflicts and avoided large-scale military entanglements.
