Doctor Sharp was best known for her tireless aid work in Vietnam and was honoured with an MBE for her efforts in 2001.

At the tribute ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Vu Quang Minh said over the past half century, Dr. Sharp became one of Vietnam’s best friends who made great and tireless contributions to Vietnam’s struggle to liberate the nation and its development process.

Her noble virtue was not only recognized by the Vietnamese Government’s Order of Friendship in 1992 and a series of other medals of ministries, but also remembered by people in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

Dr. Sharp is one of many Coventry citizens to have joined the movement protesting the American involvement in the civil struggle in Vietnam. In 1965 she became a supporter of the Medical Aid Committee for Vietnam, bringing together both aspects of her life’s work. The committee is later the charity Medical and Scientific Aid (MSAVLC) to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

Over the past 20 years from 1989 to 2009, as the Honorary Secretary to MSAVLC, she conducted lots of humanitarian activities in Vietnam. Most worthy of note was the MSAVLC’s cooperation with  the Highland Education Development organization to provide training for more than 1,500 midwives in 8 northern mountainous provinces in Vietnam to reduce fatality rates among mothers and newborns.
