Festival commemorates first king of Vietnamese people

Traditional rituals and a line-up of various cultural activities are included in the Kinh Duong Vuong festival, which opens at the historical Kinh Duong Vuong temple and tomb complex in Bac Ninh province on the 16th day of the first lunar month, or February 6.

The three-day festival aims to honour Kinh Duong Vuong in his role as the first king of the Vietnamese people, duly upholding the nation’s cultural traditions and enhancing solidarity among Vietnamese people.

This year the festival is taking place from February 6 to February 8, with the event featuring numerous traditional rituals, cultural and sporting activities, and folk games.

An incense purifying ceremony is held at the temple dedicated to Kinh Duong Vuong. Elsewhere, a palanquin procession and other activities get underway at the festival.

Nguyen Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Bac Ninh provincial Party Committee, beats a drum to mark the opening of the festival.

The Kinh Duong Vuong traditional festival has been preserved through numerous generations showing people’s gratitude to their ancestors and as demonstrating their hope for peace and prosperity.

The Kinh Duong Vuong temple and tomb complex was constructed on the southern bank of the Duong river. The sight boasts significant historical and cultural values, with the complex being recognized as a national historical and cultural relic site back in 1993.

(VOVWORLD) - A festival was held in the northern province of Bac Ninh on February 6 in order to commemorate the 4,902nd death anniversary of Kinh Duong Vuong, who was known as the first king of the Vietnamese people.
