Front leader pays Christmas visits to Catholics in HCM City

(VOVWORLD) -Do Van Chien, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, on Sunday visited and extended Christmas greetings to Nguyen Nang, Archbishop of the Ho Chi Minh City Archdiocese and President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam.

Chien applauded the cooperation of Archbishop Nguyen Nang, priests, dignitaries, and the Catholic community to join hands with the entire nation in completing all socio-economic tasks for 2024. He commended their active participation in social affairs, environmental protection, national defence and security, social order and safety, and in improving the quality of life for the people. He expressed his hope to continue to receive the companionship and support of the Catholic Church in the development programs. 

“The Archbishop, clergy, and Catholics will continue to work together with the entire Party, the entire army and the entire people to strive for even better results. The Communist Party of Vietnam is now preparing for Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 14th National Party Congress. This is a very special political and social event, steering the country to prosperity and development. I hope for understanding of and support for this policy,” according to Chien.

For his part, Archbishop Nguyen Nang expressed his joy and pride at the attention of the Party and State leaders and the great achievements of the country. He also shared about the efforts of the Church in social activities, the environment and charity programs.

Also on Sunday, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien visited and wished a Merry Christmas to Knight of Grand Cross Le Duc Thinh at his home in Ho Chi Minh City. Parishioner Le Duc Thinh is one of the first people from Vietnam and Asia to be recognized as a Knight by Pope Francis and the Catholic organization for his very useful and effective contributions to society.
