(VOVWORLD) - The G7 summit in Alberta, Canada, concluded on Tuesday without issuing a joint statement on shared positions.
Instead, the summit issued a series of joint communiqués on various issues, ranging from AI and quantum computing to cross-border human trafficking.
The AI communique, the most comprehensive declaration to date from the G7 leaders, advocates a “human-centric approach” to applying advanced technology, with the aim to “grow prosperity, benefit societies, and address pressing global challenges”, particularly by increasing economic efficiency and strengthening national security.
The G7 leaders, adopting a shared vision for emerging quantum technologies, pledged to promote public and private investment in quantum science and technology.
They also agreed to cooperate on wildfire prevention, research, and community reconstruction in an initiative they called the “Kananaskis Wildfire Charter”.
There was no agreement on the conflict in Ukraine or joint effort to pressure the combatants into accepting a ceasefire. While Canada and others announced new sanctions against Russia and pledged aid to Ukraine, the US said it will not follow suit.
France is scheduled to hold the rotating G7 presidency next year, and President Macron said France plans to host the summit in Evian.
