IOM encourages Vietnam to seek ‘Champion Country’ status in global migration pact

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has made significant contributions and is encouraged to register as a “Champion Country” in the implementation of the United Nations Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), International Organization for Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission Kendra Rinas said at a conference in Hanoi on Friday.

The conference, which reviewed five years of Vietnam’s GCM Action Plan, brought together 100 delegates from ministries, agencies, and domestic and international organizations, including IOM, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The IOM representative suggested that Vietnam consider registering as a “Champion Country” at the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF), scheduled for May 2026 in New York.
