Germany seeks way to address the Ukraine crisis

(VOVworld) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel held two separate phone calls on Friday with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to discuss the current situation in Ukraine, particularly issues related to a Russian humanitarian aid convoy.

Merkel expressed her great concern that the Russian convoy had crossed the border without Ukraine's approval and the Red Cross' accompany. Germany called on concerned parties to make efforts to ensure that the Russian convoy and a previous Ukraine’s convoy will approach unfortunate people. Merkel also appealed for a speed agreement for a ceasefire in Ukraine. Earlier, the Kremlin said in a statement that Putin and Merkel had spoken on the phone and discussed certain steps that Russia and Germany could undertake to end the fighting and establish an internal dialogue in Ukraine. Chancellor Merkel visited Ukraine on Saturday to seek peaceful measures for the current crisis in Ukraine.
