Hanoi students win prizes at Japan expo

(VOVWORLD) - Students from the Ngo Si Lien Secondary School in Hanoi won prizes at the recent Japan Design, Idea and Invention Expo 2024.

8th graders Nguyen Phuong Linh and Phan Le Duc Phat won a gold prize for their “Smart helmet”, a product to improve the safety of motorcycle riders. 7th graders  Le Khanh Thuy and Phan Le Tue Minh won a gold prize for their “Smart dog collar”, a product which tracks pets.

The two products, which have been copyrighted, also received special prizes at the expo, a special Sakura prize for the “Smart helmet” and a special Hong Kong,China science association prize for the “Smart dog collar”.

Le Khanh Thuy, a 7th grader from Ngo Si Lien, attended the expo. She said: “I’m proud and excited to represent Vietnam in this competition. The challenges of the competition helped me develop my thinking, creativity, teamwork, and problem solving skills. These valuable experiences encourage me to strive and be creative in my study and life.”

Teacher Tran Thi Phuong Dung led the team: “To promote the students’ creativity, Ngo Si Lien Secondary School focuses on the operation of the STEM club, where many passionate and creative students are discovered. The school encourages the students to take part in domestic and international competitions. In the future, Ngo Si Lien Secondary School plans to organize more scientific research activities and hope to get a positive response from the students.”

Held by the World Invention Intellectual Property Associations from July 5-7, this year's contest drew 343 entries from 25 countries and territories, including  Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Saudi Arabia.
