Hoai's story began in 2020, when a philanthropist in Ho Chi Minh City donated 80 wheelchairs to Mang Thit district, to support the sick and disabled. Hoai participated in delivering the wheelchairs to the needy.
After the donation ended, many people called him and asked for more wheelchairs. Understanding the need of the disabled, Hoai came up with the idea of collecting used wheelchairs, restoring them into new ones for charity. Since 2022, he has repaired and donated 214 wheelchairs to the disabled in and outside his home province of Vinh Long.

Hoai said that the repair work requires replacing many parts of the wheelchair from the shell, rim, saddle, and footrest to frame. He bought the used wheelchairs from scrap yards in his home province. At first, the yards did not know about his charity purpose and sold wheelchairs at a cheap price. Later, they gave him used vehicles for free.
Spending his family's money on repairing the wheelchairs, Hoai said he finds it difficult the repair costs rise. Furthermore, Sau personally delivers the vehicles, sometimes as far as Dong Thap, Ben Tre, and Tien Giang provinces.
Most of the recipients are in extremely disadvantaged circumstances. People who know Sau’s problem have paid part of his travel expenses to help him continue doing good deeds and contributing to society.
Huynh Huu Hoai's charitable work is applauded by authority and loved by the people. He has spread the image of Good People-Good Deeds, joining hands to build a compassionate community that the Vietnam Red Cross Society has launched a movement.
