History and Development of Radio

(VOVworld)-The early history of radio is the history of technology that produced devices that use radio waves. Radio was invented before most other media. Live voices, music and noises broadcast via radio waves have always fascinated listeners. Over a century of development, the meaning and usage of the word "radio" has developed in parallel with developments in the field of communications and can be seen to have three distinct phases: experimentation with electromagnetic waves; wireless communication; and radio broadcasting and commercialization.  Today, marking World Radio Day, we will look back at important milestones of the history of Radio.

Albert Turpain in France sent and received his first radio signal, using Morse code, up to 25 metres in 1894. Turpain’s Achievement paved the way for other scientists to invent wireless devices capable of transmitting signals over long distances between 1895 and 1904. In 1899, Gugliermo Marconi established a radio connection between Dover, England,  and Wimereux, France.

History and Development of Radio - ảnh 1

In 1909, the first multi-frequency radio was invented and Germany built its first commercial marine radio station on Borkum island. In 1903, information about the war between Russia and Japan was broadcast on radio. Radio entered a new phase when Reginald Fessenden became the first person to broadcast music via radio waves on Christmas Eve in 1906. Since then, many broadcast centers have been built around the globe, giving listeners much quicker access to non-local news.

13 February, the day UN radio was established in 1946, was proposed by the Director-General of UNESCO as World Radio Day to raise public awareness of the importance of radio, encourage decision makers expand access to information through radio, and enhance cooperation among broadcasters worldwide.
