(VOVworld)- US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and his Indian counterpart Manohar Parrikar have officially signed a new 10-year defense cooperation framework agreement on Wednesday. The India-US Defense Framework Agreement opened a period of defense cooperation between the two sides in terms of technology and equipment production, besides annual joint military drills and intelligence sharing. During a talk on Wednesday, the two leaders reviewed the achievements on the deployment of 4 projects under the India-US Defense Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI), so-called the DTTI pathfinder projects, determined by US President Barack Obama during his India visit in January this year. DTTI pathfinder projects includes transferring know-how and co-producing the next-generation Raven unmanned aerial vehicles, "roll-on, roll-off" intelligence-gathering and reconnaissance modules for C-130J Super Hercules aircraft, mobile electric hybrid power sources and "uniform integrated protection ensemble increment-2 which are chemical, biological warfare protection gear for soldiers.

Mr. Carter said in a press conference in New Delhi that DTTI is an important factor of the India-US Defense Framework Agreement and expressed his delight at the deployment of the pathfinder projects. He added that the two sides also discussed issues related to maritime cooperation, carrier and jet engine technology.
