International choir competition graces Hoi An ancient city

(VOVWORLD) 1,200 singers from 29 choirs from around the world are competing at the 8th International Choir Competition from Wednesday to Sunday  in Hoi An city, Quang Nam province.

Participating teams are from Canada, Poland, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. 

The competition, jointly held by the municipal People’s Committee and German event organiser Interkultur, includes 11 events.

Vice Chairman of the Hoi An People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Lanh, said, "This international cultural event will enrich the city’s “Creative House' project and help Hoi An join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The competition has achieved great successes in its past iterations, left a profound impression on audiences, and helped promote Hoi An and Vietnam as hospitable, peace-loving destinations."

The event includes an art performance, a reenactment of an early-20th-century Hoi An by night, a street choir performance called “International Melodies,” and a tour of the ancient city.
