International community pledges support for Vietnam’s development

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung held bilateral meetings with the leaders of 24 countries attending the 21st Summit of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21) in Paris. He reiterated Vietnam’s policy of promoting friendship and cooperation with other countries and asked these countries to continue supporting Vietnam’s development and its bid to join important UN organizations. The Prime Minister also proposed specific measures to increase collaboration at multilateral forums. He said that Vietnam will continue to be a responsible member of the world community, contributing to the maintenance of an environment of peace, stability, and cooperation for development in the region and the world. He called on international friends to support ASEAN and Vietnam’s stance on the East Sea issue.

Leaders of other countries said they want to bolster friendship and cooperation with Vietnam. They pledged to support Vietnam in national development, responding to climate change, and achieving the UN sustainable development goals until 2030. The leaders also voiced their support for the position of Vietnam and ASEAN regarding problems in the East Sea.

On the sidelines of a high-level dialogue on the climate change response in the Mekong Delta region, Prime Minister Dung received the president of the World Bank, the president of the Global Environment Fund, and the president of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

World Bank President Jim Young Kim pledged to support Vietnam’s efforts to restructure its economy and cope with climate change.

The KOICA President said Vietnam is the organization’s biggest partner in development and infrastructure and hopes to support Vietnam in capacity building,  responding to climate change, and formulating development projects. The President of the Global Environment Fund Naoko Ishii pledged support for Vietnam in building sustainable urban areas and responding to climate change in the Mekong River delta.
