(VOVWORLD) - Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has declared that national security is a “red line” as authorities move to suppress growing anti-government protests.
In a statement broadcast on state television, the IRGC said demonstrators had attacked military and police facilities over the past two nights, causing deaths and damage to public property.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that those targeting state assets would not be tolerated.
The comments came after US President Donald Trump said Washington could intervene if Iran violently cracked down on protesters.
The demonstrations, which began late last month, reflect public anger over economic conditions and represent one of the most serious challenges to Iran’s leadership in years.
