(VOVworld) – The next round of talks on security and stability in Georgia’s Kavkaz region ended on Thursday without any progress. The talks in Geneva, Switzerland, were sponsored by the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and attended by Georgia, Russia, the US, and Georgia's separatist territories – Abkhazia and South Osetia.

Russia’s chief negotiator and Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said that the 26^th round of talks remained deadlocked. Russia insisted on a commitment by Georgia not to use force against Abkhazia and South Osetia.

The negotiators failed to agree on a joint verbal communiqué on rejecting violence in accordance with the UN Charter and the Helsinki Convention as proposed by Abkhazia and South Osetia. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for late March.
