Kazakhstan to hold early Presidential election on June 9

(VOVWORLD) - Kazakhstan’s Embassy in Hanoi informed the media that Kazakhstan will hold an early presidential election on June 9.

Charge d’affaires Zhenis Umbetov said: “Vietnam is an important economic, trade, and political partner of Kazakhstan in the region. The presidential election is a major event in Kazakhstan and it’s important for us to deliver the latest news about the election to the Vietnamese people.”

Kazakhstani President Nursultan Nazarbayev announced his resignation on March 19th. As per Kazakhstan’s constitution, the speaker of the Senate, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, is acting head of state until the new election. 7 candidates including Tokayev are campaigning for the election.

 “The elections will take place from 7 a.m to 8 p.m local time on June 9th. A vote count will be conducted within 12 hours after the closure of the polls and the results will be submitted to the Central Electoral Committee within 2 days, not later than June 11th.” Umbetov said.

The final result will be announced before June 16th.
