Khmer people in Hau Giang province celebrate Sene Dolta festival

(VNA) - The Steering Committee for the Southwestern region today/ on Tuesday visited and presented gifts to policy beneficiaries who are dignitaries, and Khmer people to celebrate the 2012 Sene Dolta festival.

The delegation presented gifts to 2 Khmer pagodas, 7 families of policy beneficiaries and 20 poor Khmer households to mark the occasion. Deputy Head of the Southwestern region’s Steering Committee Bui Ngoc Suong congratulated the monks and local Khmer people and wished them a happy Sene Dolta festival. Mr. Suong talked about the support to the local people in the coming time: "We need to make proposals to the Government and fine-tune policies to  improve the living standards of the local people especially Khmer people in the Mekong River Delta".

Until Friday, the Southwestern delegation is planning to visit and present gifts to the Khmer Theravada Buddhism Institute, associations representing patriotic monks and nuns in the Mekong River Delta region, policy beneficiaries and poor households.

The Sene Dolta festival is when children to pay tribute to their parents and ancestors.
