Under the plan, Kien Giang will become a province with high quality life in the Mekong Delta region and a national marine economic center by 2030. By 2050, Kien Giang will become a strong marine economic center and an important gateway for trade and traffic. The planning identifies a list of priority investment projects in the 2021-2030 period, with more than 200 projects in agriculture, fisheries, technical infrastructure, social infrastructure, environment, and national defense and security.

In his address, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang urged Kien Giang to continue to take advantage of marine economic potential and proactively implement road traffic projects while focusing on developing waterway traffic.

In addition, Quang said, the province needs to call for more investment in agricultural product processing and relocate agricultural product processing factories closer to raw material areas to increase the value of Vietnam's agricultural products. He requested Kien Giang to focus on attracting aquaculture projects to end illegal, unreported and unregulated seafood exploitation and protect and develop seafood resources, thus soon removing the European Commission's "yellow card" and developing a sustainable seafood industry.
