Law on children protection in spotlight

(VOV) - The draft Law on Protection, Care and Education of Children (revised) was discussed at a seminar in the northern province of Hoa Binh on April 9-10.

The event was co-organized by the Department of Child Protection and Care under the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Participants pointed out shortcomings of the current law and suggested changes. Many said the maximum age of a child in legal definition should be increased from the current 16 to 18 years old. The law should govern child protection. Delegates agreed that the law creates an important legal basis for the protection, care and education of children while promoting children’s basic rights, Vietnam was one of the first countries to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
