(VOVworld) - More than half of Britons want to leave the European Union, says ORB International. A survey of 2,000 people carried out by ORB for the Independent newspaper showed 52 percent of British voters want to leave while only 48 percent want to stay. Last month, 53% favored remaining in the EU, down slightly from 55% in September. ORB said it was the first time in its six months of polling on the same question that a majority of Britons favored leaving the European Union. The survey saw a big gap between generations, with 69 percent of respondents aged 18 to 24 wanting to remain in the EU. Only 38 percent of those aged 65 and over want to remain. The poll showed that the strongest support for EU membership was in Scotland and Wales, while in England support was below 50 percent in most regions.
