(VOVWORLD) - Millions of dollars has been donated by Vietnamese and overseas Vietnamese communities to localities ravaged by typhoon Yagi.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of HCM City on Thursday raised 2.3 million USD to assist victims. The donation came from a Lao delegation led by President Thongloun Sisoulith and his wife and from Vietnamese organizations and individuals. Vice Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Phuoc Loc expressed his gratitude to all the donors and called for more support for disaster areas.

As of Thursday evening, 83,000 USD had been raised by the Overseas Vietnamese communities and embassies in Malaysia (1,300 USD), the Czech Republic (57,000 USD), Algeria (740 USD), Hungary (800 USD), and Germany (24,000 USD).
On Sunday the Federation of Vietnamese Associations in Germany will organize a fund-raising event at Berlin’s Dong Xuan Center.
