(VOVWORLD) - The 20th UN Day of Vesak Celebrations (Vesak 2025), to be held in Ho Chi Minh City from May 6 to 8, is expected to draw over 2,700 delegates, including heads of state, Buddhist dignitaries, UN and international organization representatives, and overseas Vietnamese from 85 countries and territories.

Recognized by UNESCO, Vesak honors the Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and passing into Nirvana.
This will be the fourth time Vietnam hosts the event, said Venerable Thich Gia Quang, Vice Chairman of the Executive Council and Head of the Information and Communication Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, at a press conference in Hanoi on Tuesday.
“Hosting the event reaffirms Vietnam’s role and position in the global Buddhist community. It highlights the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha as a beacon in guiding international Buddhist activities and honors the values of Buddhist teachings for peace and human service in today’s world,” he noted.
Vesak 2025 is set to adopt the Ho Chi Minh City Vesak Declaration, underscoring Vietnam’s contributions to the UN’s millennium goals for peace and sustainable development.
