(VOVWORLD) - Lawmakers on Thursday discussed the draft Law amending and supplementing several articles of the Law on Education, the amended Law on Higher Education, the draft revised Law on Vocational Education, and a draft resolution outlining special mechanisms and policies to implement the Politburo’s Resolution 71 on breakthrough development in education and training.

They agreed that the draft laws and resolutions have formalized the Party and State’s vision, recognizing the development of education as a top national priority.

For many years, Vietnam has implemented numerous policies and initiatives to comprehensively reform its education and training system to meet the demands of industrialization and modernization.

To create new momentum and development space for the entire sector in the new era, Tran Hoang Ngan, a deputy from Ho Chi Minh City, suggested: “First, we must focus on holistic development of personality, intellect, morality, physical fitness, and aesthetics, fostering compassion in early childhood and general education.”

“In addition to equipping students with knowledge, we need to cultivate critical thinking, life skills, and the ability to adapt quickly to the rapid growth of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, AI, the digital society, digital government, and digital enterprises. Schools themselves must also become digital schools,” Ngan added.

Strongly supporting the special and exceptional incentives for teachers outlined in Draft Resolution No. 71 of the Party Central Committee, Hoang Van Cuong, a deputy of Hanoi said that increasing remuneration and benefits for teachers yields significant social impact.

“When teachers receive greater attention, societal expectations rise, and oversight of their responsibilities becomes more rigorous and thorough. This mechanism will help build a professional, exemplary teaching workforce, a decisive factor in the success of Vietnam’s education system,” said Cuong.

National Assembly deputies agreed that the draft education laws reflect a spirit of innovation. But to achieve a true breakthrough, legislation must fully embrace the transformative initiatives of Resolution 71, remove bottlenecks in governance, human resources, financing, and management, and mobilize all available resources to create momentum and new development space for the entire education sector.
