NAM’s ministerial level meeting begins in Iran
50 Foreign Ministers from Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries gathered Tuesday in Tehran for the bloc’s ministerial level meeting.
During the 2-day meeting, the ministers will discuss document drafted by NAM’s expert-level meeting 2 days ago. The draft document will receive a final review at the NAM summit on Thursday. The ministers will also discuss proposals condemning unilateral sanctions by the West against Iran and several other countries, and demanding a greater say in the UN Security Council. Other issues to be covered include a call for the creation of a Palestinian state based on 1967 borders, combating terrorism, and nuclear disarmament.
Egypt is expected to bring forward its special outline, which focuses on reforms in the structure of the UN, nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction disarmament, realizing democracy and human rights, combating international terrorism, and helping to resolve global crises with Palestinian issue at the core.
At the NAM summit on Thursday, Egypt will officially hand over its 3-year chairmanship to Iran.
