National Day celebrated in Canada, Laos, Thailand

(VOV) - Events to commemorate the August Revolution and National Day have been held in many countries around the world, including Canada. Nearly 300 people, including provincial officials, foreign friends and overseas Vietnamese gathered at a celebration in Ontario, Canada on September 1 to mark the National Day. Vietnamese ambassador to Canada Le Sy Vuong Ha said Vietnamese nationals are always looking towards their homeland and contributing to national development in the fields of science, technology, economics, education, society and culture. They also actively take part in activities to support their compatriots in overcoming the impact of natural diseases and epidemics.

A wide range of activities was also held in Laos during Vietnam's National Day to help Vietnamese people in the country gain a better understanding of the day's historical meaning and the special relationship between the two nations.

At a function in Bangkok, Thailand, Ambassador Ngo Duc Thang said Vietnam and Thailand have already convened the first meeting of the ministerial-level committee for trade cooperation, considering trade a key area of cooperation in bilateral relations. Two-way trade rose to more than US$9 billion last year, making Vietnam the fourth biggest trade partner of Thailand in Southeast Asia. According to the ambassador, Vietnam and Thailand still have great potential for future development, as their business communities are taking advantage of regional economic connectivity institutions, especially the ASEAN Economic Community due to debut in 2015.
