(VOVworld) – Vietnamese embassies in a number of countries are celebrating National Day, September 2nd. In Laos, Ambassador Ta Minh Chau recalled Vietnam’s great achievements over the past 67 years as well as its traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Laos in recent years. At a gathering in Phnom Penh, Ambassador Ngo Anh Dung affirmed that Vietnam consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, and openness and is a responsible friend and partner in the international community. He added Vietnam is also a trustworthy and loyal neighbour standing side by side with Cambodia and other ASEAN countries in the process of building a strong community. Dung described 2012 as very important as it marks the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year and the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties. At a ceremony in New Delhi, India, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Tan said that since Vietnam gained independence in 1945, relations between the two nations have been close thanks to late President Ho Chi Minh and late President Jawaharlal Nehru.

An array of activities has been held across Vietnam to celebrate the victory of the August Revolution and National Day, on September 2. The Vietnam Association of Friendship Organizations hosted a meeting in Ho Chi Minh city, attended by representatives from the diplomatic corps and international and non-governmental organizations. Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh city’s People’s Committee, Le Manh Ha, said that the historic victory, the valuable lessons learnt from the August Revolution aided Vietnam’s soldiers and people in the 30 year war against the French and American, to liberate the nation. Since the war ended in 1975, the country has changed in every aspect. Ho Chi Minh city now contributes more than 20% to the national GDP, holds 28% of industrial production value, one third of export revenue, and attracts 30% of all FDI projects in Vietnam. The city is also home to 40 consulates and 150 international and non-governmental organizations.

The same day, the Bac Lieu Literature and Arts Association held an exhibition of paintings, sculptures and photographs that reflect local people’s occupations and lifestyles.

Kien Giang’s Department for Culture, Sports and Tourism also held a community singing contest for amateur singers from the Kinh, Hoa and Khmer people.
