(VOVWORLD) - The New Year pole-raising ceremony was re-enacted at the Hue Imperial Citadel on Tuesday, following Nguyen Dynasty court rituals to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Horse.

The pole, known as the Neu tree in Vietnamese, is believed to ward off evil spirits.
“The ceremony showcases our traditions and brings people together in a shared cultural spirit. By recreating an old-style Lunar New Year (Tet), we aim to highlight the beauty of Hue, especially the royal court’s customs,” Nguyen Phuoc Hai Trung, Deputy Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre, said.
The Neu bamboo tree is carried through Hien Nhon gate. |
The ritual featured worship and ceremonial activities set against the backdrop of royal court music, signaling the arrival of Tet.
Visitor Hoang Hai Y Nhi said, “This is my first time here. Watching the pole-raising ceremony, I can truly feel the traditions of the Hue royal court. As Tet approaches, the atmosphere is lively and bustling, with a strong sense of an ancient, traditional Tet.”
