An unnamed South Korean military official said on Sunday that since December, 2012, North Korea’s army has built two steel 60-metre observatories along the Joint Security Area (JSA). The two observatories stand near the Panmunjom ceasefire village for better observation of the movements of South Korea’s army in the demilitarized zone (DMZ). The JSA has been a front line in the Cold War since the Korean armistice agreement of 1953. North Korea already had some 20-metre observatories there.
