Omicron variant detected in more countries
(VOVWORLD) - There are currently 265,699,524 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 5,264,048 deaths from the coronavirus as of Saturday.

The US remains the most seriously affected country with 808,608 deaths out of nearly 50 million infections. It is followed by India and Brazil.
Omicron, the latest variant of the SarsCoV-2 virus which was first detected in Africa in mid-November, has spread to more countries. The two latest countries to detect Omicron infections are Romania and Chile. In South Africa, one of the first countries to detect the new Omicron variant, the number of Covid-19 cases has increased rapidly in recent days, from 4,373 cases on November 30 to 16,366 cases on Saturday.
