Party chief urges Ninh Thuan to prepare to restart nuclear power plant project

(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary To Lam has asked Ninh Thuan province to prepare necessary conditions, alongside with the Government, ministries, agencies and localities, for restarting the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant project to feed Vietnam’s growing economy and diversify the country’s energy sources.

At a working session with the provincial leadership on Thursday, the Party leader said the National Assembly approved the continuation of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant Project after 8 years of suspension which presents a significant opportunity for Vietnam to develop a highly skilled workforce, enhance the country’s scientific and technological capabilities, participate in the global nuclear power supply chain, and learn and eventually master nuclear technology on the world stage.

The Party and the State fully support the continuation of the nuclear power project, recognizing it as the core of the country’s energy strategy for the future, he said.

"Local residents of Ninh Thuan and surrounding areas, who contribute land and resources to develop this national energy project, will benefit from the fruits of this development. The Party and State would select the best nuclear technologies, the most reputable consulting partners, and the most qualified personnel to ensure the safety and efficiency of the project, not only for the current generation but also for future generations," said the Party leader.

Mr. To Lam held that Ninh Thuan's development has yet to fully match its potential, urging the province to further promote its potential in tourism, coastal economy, ports, and logistics services, as well as renewable energy resources like solar and wind power.

He said Ninh Thuan needs a new, modern, and global perspective - one that resonates with the spirit of a new era, to optimize the great potential from its land and people.

He urged Ninh Thuan to focus on streamlining the political system in a drastic, serious, comprehensive and effective manner.

The same day, General Secretary To Lam inspected the planned construction site for the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant 1 in Vinh Truong village, Phuoc Dinh commune, Thuan Nam district, Ninh Thuan province. He emphasized the need to accelerate project procedures, urging local authorities to report to the Government for consideration, approval, and capital allocation to ensure timely progress.

Also on Thursday, the General Secretary participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a multi-purpose house, classrooms, and auxiliary facilities at Phuoc Dinh Kindergarten in Thuan Nam district.

He also visited Ca Na Port, developed by Trung Nam Investment - Construction Joint Stock Company and Bau Truc Pottery Village in Phuoc Dan town, Ninh Phuoc district
