(VOVworld) - Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong on Wednesday met with leaders of Thailand’s Parliament, the Democrat Party and businesses. Speakers of the Thai Upper and Lower Houses called for further cooperation between the two countries in all areas, particularly economics and rice production and trading. Party leader Trong said he hoped the two countries’ legislative bodies will strengthen their cooperation in monitoring the implementation of agreements and treaties between the two countries and will support each other at regional forums and the Inter-parliamentary Union. The leaders said they believed ASEAN countries will be united in resolving international and regional issues including those related to the East Sea, Party leader Trong asked Thai parliamentary leaders to continue to support overseas Vietnamese in Thailand and further contribute to the multifaceted cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
On Wednesday President of Democrat Party and former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva met with Party leader Trong. He reiterated continued cooperation with the Communist Party of Vietnam. Trong expressed his hope that the Democrat Party will continue to uphold its influence and contribute the development of Vietnam-Thailand relationship. He invited Vejjajiva to visit Vietnam in the near future.

At a working session with leading Thai businesses in Bangkok the same day, Trong suggested that as the two countries have considerable potential for stronger cooperation, both sides improve the operational efficiency of their joint commission to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, finance, rice production and farm produce processing. He said both countries should work closely together to develop high quality human resources and urban infrastructure, while increasing and role and cooperation of their business organisations.
During the visit, Deputy Prime Minsiter Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Wednesday received the President of Amata Vikrom group. Phuc said he hoped the group will expand its operation in Vietnam, focusing on high-tech and the development of smart cities.
Meanwhile, in Bangkok, VietjetAir budget airline declared the opening of a flight to Thailand and signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of an airline joint venture with Thailand.
