(VOVworld) - A delegation of Party and State leaders on Saturday laid a wreath at President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Bac Son War Martyr Monument in Hanoi to commemorate those who rendered great service to the nation. The same day, delegations from a number of ministries, agencies and organizations in Hanoi paid tributes to President Ho at his mausoleum and laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Cemetery on Bac Son Street. July 27 is observed as War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day to show people’s gratitude towards soldiers who were either wounded or sacrificed their lives during wartime for national independence and freedom. This year, Vietnam marks its 66th anniversary. Localities across the countries visited and presented gifts to families of invalids and martyrs as well as other social policy beneficiaries. At a ceremony in a martyr cemetery in Quang Nam province, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed the significance of paying the debts of gratitude:    “On this occasion, I want to remind the youth union members and today’s younger generation that paying tribute to our predecessors who laid down their lives for the people’s happiness is a precious tradition of our nation. In particular, we need to show our sentiment through practical acts. As the future masters of the country, the Vietnamese youth need to continuously study, work and defend the fatherland with passion, courage and will.

At the National Radio Centre in Hanoi, Radio the Voice of Vietnam hosted an art program, which honored the young volunteers. The audience talked to historical witnesses, whose youth was associated with the historic Truong Son range and the courageous sacrifices of young volunteers during the national resistance wars. Ngo Thi Minh, Deputy Head of the National Assembly Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children, said: “We are grateful to the selfless sacrifices for national protection by former young volunteers. These songs will encourage the young people, including me myself, to do more and pay more attention to the former young volunteers. This activity will be spread in the society”.
