(VOVWORLD) - “Photo Hanoi ’25”, the international photography biennale, opened on Saturday morning in Hanoi, showcasing the latest trends in contemporary art through painting, sculpture, and photography.

“Biennale” means “every two years” in Italy and is often used to describe major international art exhibitions.
Director of Hanoi’s Department of Culture and Sports, Bach Lien Huong, told the opening ceremony that this year’s “Photo Hanoi ’25” is organized in larger scale and scope, featuring a wide range of activities and the participation of over 170 artists, photographers, curators, and experts from 21 countries and 25 professional organizations.
She affirmed that Hanoi always attaches great importance to promoting cultural exchange with France and other international partners involved in the project.

Jonathan Wallace Baker, Chief Representative of UNESCO in Vietnam, said that “Photo Hanoi ’25” reflects Hanoi’s vision as a UNESCO Creative City. The event demonstrates the values that can be created when artists, communities, local authorities, and international partners work together to build a dynamic, open, and inclusive cultural space.
Taking place throughout November, “Photo Hanoi ’25” features 22 exhibitions along with 28 side events. “Photo Hanoi”’s 2021 and 2023 editions drew more than 170,000 visitors, generated 200 media stories, and reached 5 million social media engagements.
