PM meets with Chairwoman of Federation Council of Russia

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko in Moscow on Monday as part of his official visit to Russia.

At the meeting, both sides agreed to continue promoting the role of the two parliaments and jointly oversee the implementation of agreements reached between the two governments in economy and trade, energy and oil and gas, science and high technology, security and defense, human resource training, and infrastructure. They stressed their support for resolving legal obstacles to promote effective cooperation in the new era, while strengthening cooperation in culture, tourism, people-to-people exchanges, and cooperation between localities.

Chairwoman Matviyenko emphasized the need to ramp up cooperation in energy and oil and gas, people-to-people exchanges, education and training, tourism, cultural exchange, and local cooperation. She expressed her hope that more Vietnamese people will visit Russia as tourists.

Prime Minister Chinh called on the Federal Assembly of Russia to maintain an objective and balanced stance, and to voice support for the position and views of Vietnam and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in handling the East Sea issue on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
