Only hours after the head of the army Navere Honore Traore said he was assuming power, he was challenged by a deputy commander of the presidential guard and a leader of one of the civil society groups who helped lead the street protests that toppled the president. Lieutenant-Colonel Isaac Yacouba Zida said a transitional agency will be set up to restore the constitution order. Mr. Isaac Yacouba Zida also ordered to close the border gate after deposed President Blaise Compaore fled from the capital Ouagadougou. Leader of the opposition in Burkina Faso, Zephirin Diabre expressed his hope that the two rival army forces will reach an agreement and the process to transform into a civil government will not last more than one year.
