(VOVWORLD) - Construction has begun on the Hon La General Port Project, a 90-million-USD development in Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province. The project is expected to expand seaport infrastructure and drive socio-economic growth in the region.

Covering 39 hectares, the port will have modern technical facilities and a strategic location on Hon La Bay, whose natural depth will give large container ships access.
The port will sit 6 nautical miles from Vietnam’s coastal shipping route, 360 nautical miles from the international East Sea (South China Sea) route, 4 km from National Highway 1A, and 150 km from the Cha Lo International Border Gate—a key advantage for trade connections with Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, and neighboring economic zones.
At the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, Tran Phong, Chairman of the Quang Binh provincial People's Committee, said with its favorable sea and road connections, Hon La International General Port will be a vital transit hub for goods between Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, China, and other major economic centers.
In addition to freight transport, the port will also accommodate international cruise ships, creating new opportunities for marine tourism and contributing to Quang Binh’s long-term economic growth, he noted.
