(VOVworld) – The Middle East Quartet – the US, the UN, the EU, and Russia called for a “speedy resumption” of Israeli-Palestinian Authority peace talks.

Representatives of the Quartet said that the talks must respect Palestinian aspirations for statehood and Israel's security concerns. There is deep concern over the difficult situation in Gaza, where the pace of reconstruction needs to be accelerated to answer the basic needs of the Palestinian population. They Quartet urged donors to disburse the more than 5 billion USD in aid for the Palestinians pledged last October.
