Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia hopes that when the US resolves its internal issues, some kind of communication will begin despite all the recent damage to their relations. He added that there are no current discussions between the two countries about a possible summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On Monday, the White House said it is weighing new sanctions against Russia following the suspected chemical attack in Syria last week. White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said Washington will announce its decision in the near future.

European Union foreign ministers called for renewed efforts to find a political solution to the 7-year conflict in Syria. They issued a joint statement saying there will be no military solution and agreed to promote a ceasefire and humanitarian aid through the UN Security Council.
